Sesame Place First U.S. Park to Adopt Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
Sesame Place Philadephia will become the first theme park in the United States to adopt the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, an international initiative to assist people with non-visible disabilities. The designation is one of many firsts for the park, which was also the first in the world to become designated as a Certified Autism Center™.
By voluntarily wearing a sunflower, guests can signal to Sesame Place Ambassadors that they may need extra help, understanding, or time due to a disability that may not be immediately apparent. A non-visible condition can be neurological, cognitive or neurodevelopmental as well as physical, visual, or auditory and include sensory and processing difficulties.
The addition of the sunflower program complements existing Sesame Place programs. Earlier in 2024, the park announced ASL Saturdays, a new program featuring a Certified ASL Interpreter stationed at shows throughout the park on select days. The sunflower program will launch at the park in early 2025.
